Tchad advances digital transformation in vocational education with validated assessment
The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training convened a landmark national workshop in N’Djamena this month to review and endorse a critical diagnostic report. This document will underpin the development of Tchad’s National Strategy for Digital Transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)—a forward-looking initiative designed to modernize the country’s technical education landscape.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from across the TVET sector to scrutinize, refine, and approve findings from an extensive field assessment. Conducted under the umbrella of the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation of TVET Systems, this initiative is supported by major continental and international bodies including UNESCO, the African Union, and the African Development Bank. The study engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Education Centres (TVECs) nationwide, combining on-site visits with digital data collection across all educational academies.
Strategic priorities highlighted as Tchad prepares digital roadmap
Addressing participants on behalf of the State Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, emphasized the pivotal role of digital transformation in aligning TVET systems with evolving technological demands and emerging career pathways. He framed the initiative as a cornerstone of government efforts to harness digital tools in revitalizing vocational education nationwide.
The diagnostic report, he noted, reveals a mix of promising developments and pressing challenges. Key areas requiring attention include governance frameworks, digital infrastructure, network connectivity, power supply reliability, educator upskilling, and the integration of digital competencies into curricula. Dr. Gabriel urged stakeholders to strengthen the document, ensuring it reflects realistic, inclusive, and nationally grounded priorities.
From assessment to action: a five-year digital transformation plan
With the validated report now serving as the foundation, work is underway to finalize the National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan for 2026–2030. The goal is clear: to equip Tchad with a modern, high-performing technical education system that meets the evolving needs of the labor market and supports sustainable economic growth.
