In a recent interview with Bip Radio, Théodore Holo, former President of Benin’s Constitutional Court, highlighted the generational shift symbolized by Romuald Wadagni’s election as the new President of the Republic.
Promising beginnings and balanced priorities
A distinguished public law professor, Holo commended the new head of state for striking a balance between infrastructure development and the safeguarding of fundamental freedoms. He emphasized that these two pillars are indispensable for sustainable progress in Benin.
According to Holo, the presidential agenda—with its focus on governance, political dialogue, and security—aligns perfectly with the need to reinforce the nation’s stability. However, he cautioned that true success depends on more than just tangible achievements.
Governance beyond physical progress
The former constitutional leader stressed that effective leadership must prioritize citizen rights and foster an environment of trust, especially following a period marked by contentious decisions. For Holo, the real test lies in the daily exercise of power rather than in isolated accomplishments.
While he expressed optimism about Wadagni’s leadership, he remained reserved: “He appears to be a good president. But will he stay true to his promises? Only time will tell.”
