Adf rebels’ escalating violence claims hundreds in eastern drc

United Nations officials have confirmed the tragic deaths of over 300 individuals at the hands of ADF rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo since the beginning of the current year. These devastating killings have been primarily recorded across the provinces of Ituri and Nord-Kivu. This grim tally includes a recent violent incursion that unfolded overnight from May 30 to 31 in Ngadi, a village situated near Beni in Nord-Kivu.

Following the Ngadi attack, the Congolese government announced that 15 civilians and one soldier were killed during the assault.

The ADF insurgent group has carried out numerous attacks in the Beni region, with reports indicating more than 40 civilian fatalities within a mere three-day period recently.

Established in eastern DRC since the mid-1990s, the ADF has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians over the years. In 2019, the group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, which now designates them as its ‘Central Africa Province’ and has claimed responsibility for some of their assaults.
