In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the pan-African platform known as Les Bâtisseurs de l’Économie Africaine (African Economy Builders) has named several countries as winners for their outstanding public policies and sectoral achievements. These distinctions highlight the states that have driven significant social and economic progress across the continent.
This landmark edition introduces a unique category specifically designed to honor governments that have achieved measurable success in strategic sectors through high-impact governance. An independent jury, comprised of seasoned African journalists and experts, selected the winners based on rigorous criteria, including economic growth, sectoral advancements, and their role in fostering African integration.
A showcase of sectoral leadership across the continent
The list of honorees spans various vital industries, reflecting the diverse strengths of the African continent:
- Democratic Republic of Congo: Recognized for its performance in the mining sector.
- Côte d’Ivoire: Awarded for its leadership in agriculture.
- Seychelles: Honored for excellence in education, vocational training, and job creation.
- Morocco: Distinguished for its advancements in healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Egypt: Celebrated for its massive infrastructure developments.
- Kenya: Recognized for its pioneering work in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
- Algeria: Awarded for its energy sector achievements.
- South Africa: Honored for its industrial and service sectors.
- Tanzania: Distinguished for its growth in tourism and hospitality.
- Nigeria: Recognized for its vibrant creative and cultural industries.
- Morocco: Additionally honored for its commitment to the environment and green development.
Special recognitions and national transformations
Beyond sectoral performance, special prizes were awarded to address social and regional goals. Namibia received a distinction for its efforts in gender equality and women’s empowerment. Ghana was recognized for its initiatives regarding the return of the African diaspora and regional integration. Furthermore, Morocco was granted the Special 20th Anniversary Prize in recognition of the profound structural transformations the country has undergone.
Michel Russel Lohoré, the founding president of the organization, noted that this initiative aims to cast a spotlight not just on private enterprises and business leaders, but also on the national visions and public policies that provide the foundation for sustainable economic change. The jury president, Valentin Mbougueng, explained that the selection process was bolstered by data from international organizations and specialized publications, combined with the jury’s firsthand field expertise.
The official ceremony to honor these nations will take place during a gala evening on June 18 in Abidjan. Since its inception in 2006, this pan-African platform has remained dedicated to celebrating the institutions, investors, and economic actors committed to the development of Africa.
