Historic agreement signed in N’Djamena to fast-track bilateral infrastructure projects
The governments of Algeria and Chad have formalized a strategic partnership to accelerate key infrastructure initiatives, including the long-awaited trans-Saharan highway project. The landmark agreement was signed during a high-level meeting in N’Djamena, marking a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The accord was inked by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unblocking, and Maintenance. The signing ceremony took place on the second day of Algeria’s official working visit to Chad, following a productive coordination meeting attended by senior officials from both countries.
The delegation from Algeria included the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and representatives from major construction firms like Cosider and the National Public Works Company (SNTP). On the Chadian side, the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and several top-tier officials participated in the discussions.
Trans-Saharan highway gains momentum
During the talks, Chadian officials highlighted the rapid advancement of bilateral agreements, noting substantial progress since the initial accords were signed in April in Algiers. Key developments include mutual technical visits and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway’s route through Chad.
