Butembo-Beni bishop warns against political indifference in DRC
In a message issued in memory of the martyrs Charles Lwanga and his companions, the bishop of Butembo-Beni in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Monsignor Sikuli Paluku Melchisédech, directly challenged the country’s authorities over the worsening socio-security situation in his diocese. The prelate expressed his bitterness at what he described as a glaring gap between the concerns of politicians and the real, legitimate needs of the Congolese people.
