Chad power plant groundbreaking ceremony scheduled soon

Powering N’Djamena: groundbreaking ceremony for new 40MW plant

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, announced during a recent visit to Niamey that the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 40-megawatt power plant in N’Djamena, Chad, will take place in the coming days. The project is being implemented by Sonelgaz International as part of the company’s expansion across the African continent.

The announcement came during the inauguration of the Algerian-Nigerien solidarity power plant in Gorou Banda (Niamey), which has a capacity of 40 megawatts. The ceremony was led by the Prime Minister of Algeria, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, alongside his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman, following instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Adjal expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the power plant in Niamey, highlighting Sonelgaz International’s ability to deliver major energy projects abroad within stipulated deadlines. He also revealed that the company has already begun preparations for new projects in several African countries, starting with the 40-megawatt plant in Chad, whose groundbreaking ceremony is imminent.

Additionally, the minister noted the growing demand for Sonelgaz International’s expertise from multiple African nations, including Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique. These projects align with the company’s commitment to supporting large-scale energy programs across Africa, leveraging its technical expertise and efficiency in project execution.

“Sonelgaz International will serve as a driving force for Algerian public and private enterprises, integrating them into all phases of project implementation through value chain principles. This will strengthen the presence of national expertise and businesses in African markets,” he emphasized.

Recall that Algeria and Chad signed an agreement in May to build the power plant in N’Djamena, reinforcing cooperation between the two countries in line with President Tebboune’s vision to support African nations and promote South-South cooperation.
