Chad’s vice-premier minister assesses southern territorial governance in Moundou

The Vice-Premier Minister of Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, conducting an oversight mission to evaluate territorial governance across southern Chad.

From May 20 to 21, discussions unfolded at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, bringing together regional delegates, regional governors, mayors of urban communes, provincial council presidents, as well as deputies and senators from the southern zone.

At the start of the gathering, Dago Yacoub, the regional delegate for Logone Occidental, welcomed the N’Djamena-based delegation. He emphasized that this meeting would help authorities gain deeper insights into local conditions and the urgent needs of communities. The mission provides a firsthand opportunity for the vice-premier minister to address pressing concerns with practical solutions.

Vice-Premier Minister Limane Mahamat highlighted the southern region’s vital role in Chad’s economy, calling it the “nation’s agricultural heartland” due to its critical role in food security. He also addressed persistent security challenges affecting southern provinces, including clashes between herders and farmers, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking. These issues, he noted, threaten social cohesion and deepen divisions within communities.

Through this initiative, Chadian authorities aim to strengthen local governance and enhance collaboration between central administration and local governments.
