Aucun joueur n’est intouchable à Chelsea : la fenêtre de transfert met en péril même les plus grandes stars
Chelsea Football Club has experienced a whirlwind week in the transfer market, diligently working to finalize new acquisitions while simultaneously identifying players for potential departures. This strategic overhaul is aimed at rebuilding the squad for the upcoming season, ensuring robust competition across all positions. The club’s management is focused on streamlining the roster through a combination of sales and loan agreements.
In terms of outgoings, academy graduate Tyreke George has officially completed his move to Everton. The deal is valued at an initial £18 million, with potential add-ons increasing it to £24 million based on performance clauses. Furthermore, Chelsea has secured a 15% sell-on clause for any future transfer profit.
Meanwhile, Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka has rebuffed Chelsea’s advances, opting to remain with Sunderland despite the Blues’ reported £8 million offer in recent weeks.
On the recruitment front, Chelsea has secured its first summer reinforcement: Italian defender Marco Balestra from Atalanta. Club officials view Balestra not merely as a long-term investment but as a player capable of immediately challenging for a starting spot. This acquisition aligns with Chelsea’s philosophy of fostering intense competition within the squad rather than simply increasing numbers.
Balestra arrives at Stamford Bridge following an exceptional loan spell at Cagliari, where he was recognized as the best defender in the Italian league. He featured in 38 matches, starting 34, and missed only one fixture throughout the season. This impressive record underscores his readiness to make an impact in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues.
At just 21 years old, Balestra is believed by Chelsea management to possess significant potential for growth. Reports suggest he is expected to play a substantial number of matches in the forthcoming season.
His inclusion is also anticipated to provide an additional offensive dimension, especially given that captain Reece James is increasingly deployed in a deeper role, either in midfield or as a right-sided central defender in a back-three formation. The future of Malo Gusto also remains uncertain, with several prominent clubs, including Manchester City, reportedly showing interest.
Key Positions Chelsea Aims to Strengthen
The London club is actively pursuing reinforcements for several other crucial areas before the transfer window closes. Discussions are ongoing with Rayo Vallecano regarding the acquisition of 28-year-old left-back Pep Chavarria.
The search for one or more central defenders continues, with Maxence Lacroix of Crystal Palace and Jacopo Ramon from Como currently leading the list of potential targets.
Chelsea also maintains its interest in Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, valued for his offensive versatility. However, securing his services is expected to be costly, as Villa is keen to retain their player, and other suitors are also in contention.
Following Sunderland’s decision to keep Granit Xhaka, Chelsea has concluded its pursuit of the midfielder and will not be submitting a new offer. The arrival of Valentin Barco from Strasbourg is still anticipated, though the club has yet to officially confirm the transfer.
Players Poised for Departure
Chelsea is open to considering offers for Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who joined the club a year ago from Manchester United for £40 million. While the club is not opposed to his departure, they will only entertain a permanent transfer, with two Champions League-qualified teams reportedly expressing interest.
Defender Trevoh Chalobah has also been placed on the market with a £35 million valuation. Chelsea has already rejected two bids from Como for his services. Young defender Mamadou Sar is expected to be loaned to a Premier League club rather than sent abroad.
Midfielder André Santos could also depart if a satisfactory offer is received, as could Enzo Fernández and Malo Gusto, who are valued at approximately £120 million and £75 million respectively.
Conversely, João Pedro retains the full confidence of the club, while at least one other forward is expected to leave this summer. The coaching staff has yet to finalize the roles of Nicolas Jackson, William Dalap, and Emmanuel Emiaga for the upcoming season, though Marc Guio’s departure, whether on loan or permanently, appears to be a certainty.
The list of players available for transfer also includes defensive duo Benoît Badiashile and Axel Disasi, as well as reserve goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen. Concurrently, the club is negotiating the sales of Gaja Slonina and David Datro Fofana, while also considering loan spells for Kendry Bayes, David Washington, Caleb Wiley, and Shumaira Mahuka to provide them with crucial playing time and experience.
