In a significant legal move, the Collectif des descendants de Serigne Touba has officially filed a lawsuit against prominent political figure Ousmane Sonko. The complaint, lodged through legal representation by Me Aboubacry Barro, accuses Sonko of spreading false information and defamation.
The legal action stems from recent public statements made by Sonko, in which he alleged that substantial financial resources had been channeled into Touba, claiming these funds were illicitly acquired public money. He further asserted that this influx of money was not intended for legitimate administrative purposes but rather to fulfill political agendas.
These remarks have sparked controversy, prompting the descendants of Serigne Touba to take legal recourse. The plaintiffs maintain that the accusations are unfounded and damaging to their reputation and the legacy of their esteemed ancestor. The case underscores ongoing tensions between political narratives and community sensitivities in Senegal’s religious and political spheres.
