A fresh chapter in bilateral relations has begun between Gabon and Guinea. In Conakry this week, Persis Lionel Essono Ondo, the newly appointed ambassadeur extraordinaire et plénipotentiaire of the Gabonese Republic, took a pivotal step in his diplomatic mission. During a formal gathering, he presented his copies figurées to Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Abroad.
This ceremonial act marks the official start of the ambassador’s duties and paves the way for his future credential presentation to Guinea’s head of state.
Building stronger strategic partnerships
The meeting went beyond mere protocol. Both diplomats reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship and solidarity that have long defined Gabon-Guinea relations. The Gabonese envoy conveyed warm greetings from the Gabonese President and best wishes for success from the country’s Foreign Minister, Marie-Edithe Tassyla Ye-Doumbeneny.
« I am fully committed to collaborating closely with your ministry to enhance the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and brotherhood that unite our two nations », stated Persis Lionel Essono Ondo.
Discussions highlighted shared ambitions for revitalized engagement. In a shifting West African landscape, Libreville and Conakry are eager to inject momentum into their exchanges. Key priorities include boosting economic cooperation, expanding bilateral trade, and forging robust partnerships in education, security, and infrastructure development.
Shared African vision fuels cooperation
Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté warmly welcomed the Gabonese diplomat, assuring him of unwavering local support for his mission. In turn, Persis Lionel Essono Ondo reaffirmed his dedication to advancing Gabon’s interests while strengthening ties between the two countries—a significant move as diplomatic missions prepare to reopen across the continent.
This appointment reflects a broader trend of inter-African diplomatic consolidation. As the continent navigates complex challenges, Gabon and Guinea are choosing a path of pragmatic co-development rooted in solidarity and shared prosperity.
