Gabon and IMF continue constructive economic talks

The Gabonese government is actively engaged in ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a fresh framework for economic collaboration. These discussions, characterized by a spirit of mutual trust and responsibility, remain a top priority for national authorities.

Since the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, Gabonese officials and IMF representatives have maintained consistent communication through scheduled video conferences. These digital exchanges, agreed upon in advance, focus primarily on technical assessments. On July 2, 2026, in Washington D.C., Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt Management, and Price Stability Thierry Minko held a productive meeting with the IMF’s Africa Director and their team, including Gabon’s mission chief, Aliona Cebotari.

The administration confirms that talks are progressing in line with a jointly established roadmap. This plan centers on key priorities such as the 2026 revised finance bill, macroeconomic and fiscal projections for 2027-2029, gradual strengthening of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and preparing for upcoming discussions with the IMF.
