Gabon and Madagascar seek to deepen bilateral ties

Colonel Michaël Randrianirina arrived in Libreville last Friday for discussions with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

The visit aimed at reinforcing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Gabon and Madagascar. The Malagasy head of state conducted a 48-hour working and friendship visit to the Gabonese capital. During his stay, he was received at the Palais Rénovation for a private audience with President Oligui Nguema. Talks centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation and the ongoing refoundation process in Madagascar.

As part of the visit, the Malagasy delegation attended a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, which outlined the key stages of Gabon’s transition and the principles that guided the restoration of constitutional order. President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s readiness to support Madagascar in its own institutional restoration efforts.

For his part, the Malagasy president expressed his intention to draw inspiration from Gabon’s experience in governance and institutional consolidation. At the conclusion of their meeting, both leaders commended the excellent state of relations between Gabon and Madagascar. It is worth recalling that in October 2025, Colonel Randrianirina assumed power in Madagascar following massive youth protests against former president Andry Rajoelina, sparked by severe water and electricity shortages.
