Gabon post savings verification app now live for affected depositors

Gabon Post’s Director-General, Alfred Ikaka Bobe, has unveiled a new digital solution for savers whose funds remain frozen following the PostBank SA collapse in 2017. An online platform now allows depositors to confirm their inclusion in the official recapitalization lists without stepping out of their homes.

To verify their status, savers can simply access the dedicated portal via any internet-connected device. The platform, which went live this week, experienced heavy traffic shortly after launch, with nearly 10,000 visits recorded within hours of its debut.

« The application has been upgraded and will be fully functional starting tomorrow », Alfred Ikaka Bobe confirmed. Users are prompted to confirm their current status as living depositors and may also specify their preferred payment location—whether local or abroad.

Only those whose names appear on the liquidator’s verified list—and who have lost their original passbooks—are required to visit a Post office to request replacements. The government has pledged to resolve this long-standing debt crisis, with a total allocation of 31.212 billion CFA francs earmarked for disbursement over three years in annual installments.

Roughly 60,000 savers are believed to be affected by this financial freeze. The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to restoring confidence in the national postal savings system through transparent, accessible digital processes.
