Libreville’s mayor Eugène Mba discusses urban transformation with Gabon’s president

Gabon’s Head of State, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met yesterday at the Palais Rénovation with Libreville’s Mayor, Eugène Mba. This second high-level encounter between the two leaders, following their first meeting on April 28, underscores the government’s commitment to monitoring local governance, assessing municipal performance, and strengthening collaboration between national and local authorities.

The Mayor presented a comprehensive report to the President, outlining progress on key initiatives since assuming office on April 24. He also shared an updated organizational structure of the City Hall. Discussions centered on long-term urban development plans for Libreville, including modern parking solutions, green spaces, combating unauthorized public land occupation, expanding neighborhood infrastructure, and digitalizing municipal services.

President Oligui Nguema emphasized the urgent need to enhance urban sanitation, stressing cleanliness as a top priority. He called for intensified efforts to improve household waste collection systems across the capital.

Reaffirming his vision for a modern and attractive Gabon, the President highlighted Libreville’s role as the nation’s showcase. He urged the Mayor to uphold the highest standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service delivery, encouraging a rigorous, innovative, and efficient approach to project implementation.
