Madagascar’s 66th independence: Gabon’s vice president represents Oligui Nguema

On behalf of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Vice President of the Government Hermann Immongault attended the festivities in Antananarivo on June 26, marking the 66th anniversary of Madagascar’s accession to international sovereignty. Alongside other delegation leaders, Immongault observed the military parade at the Mahamasina Stadium, which highlighted the commitment, patriotism, and modernization of the armed forces. The commemoration was held under the theme “Reform for the Development of Madagascar.”

The presence of the vice president underscores the excellent relations between the Gabonese and Malagasy peoples. It also illustrates the determination of Libreville and Antananarivo to further strengthen their exchanges. This follows the visit of the president of the Malagasy Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, to Libreville from June 5 to 7. The highlight of that visit was his meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer. After the meeting, Randrianirina expressed his desire to draw inspiration from the conduct of Gabon’s transition, while praising the achievements made during that period.

By sending the coordinator of government action to these celebrations, President Oligui Nguema reaffirms Gabon’s strategic interest in closer ties with the Big Island. The increase in high-level exchanges between the two countries opens a new era of cooperation, promising in political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic development spheres.
