Former parliamentarian Maïmouna Sène, a key member of the Alliance Pour la République (APR) national executive secretariat, has voiced strong opposition to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. She accused him of engaging in “judicial populism” and creating diversions to avoid addressing the urgent economic challenges facing the nation.
The senior official from the former ruling party reminded the Pastef leader that while institutional accountability is a necessary duty, it should never be exploited as a “political communication tool.” She argued that such tactics are being used to hide the current administration’s inability to steer Sénégal back toward its goals of emergence. In her view, the Sénégalaise public is waiting for concrete results in economic recovery, job creation, and the fight against rising living costs, rather than what she describes as a “witch hunt” or the settling of political scores.
“If you possess evidence, bring it to the courts and let the judiciary function in peace. The people of Sénégal did not entrust you with the state to look in the rearview mirror or to settle personal vendettas,” Maïmouna Sène declared. She insisted that the government’s priority must be halting inflation and revitalizing the economy. Furthermore, she challenged Ousmane Sonko to apply the same standards of transparency to his own camp before looking elsewhere, stating that “charity begins at home.”
