The Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) has firmly refuted claims regarding the death of Sidna Ag Hita, a senior leader close to the group’s emir Iyad Ag Gali and its second-in-command. These reports emerged shortly after the African Legion announced a targeted airstrike in the Diabali area of central Mali on the night of May 27.
A spokesperson for the group stated that Ag Hita remains alive and in good health, emphasizing that no credible evidence supports the claims of his demise. Additionally, no official statement from JNIM has confirmed his death or injury, further questioning the validity of the circulating reports.
The African Legion, part of the regional security initiative, reported that the airstrike targeted a rural camp associated with the militant organization. According to their initial assessment, Ag Hita was believed to be present at the site during the operation. However, these assertions have been met with skepticism by JNIM and independent observers alike.
