Morocco and kuwait strengthen aviation ties in Rabat

In Rabat on Tuesday, Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, engaged in discussions with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The primary objective of their meeting was to bolster coordination between Morocco and Kuwait within the crucial air navigation sector.

The high-level gathering, held on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly session of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO) hosted in Morocco, saw both delegations delve into strategies for reinforcing air safety and security. They also explored various avenues to further develop bilateral cooperation across the aviation landscape.

Minister Kayouh emphasized that the discussions served as a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the enduring historical relations shared between the two nations. He further noted that a key agenda item was the potential reactivation of the direct air route connecting Kuwait and Casablanca. Royal Air Maroc, he confirmed, is committed to reinstating this vital connection as soon as its new fleet of long-haul aircraft becomes operational.

Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, for his part, highlighted that both sides also addressed the imperative of increasing air traffic volumes between Kuwait and Morocco. This strategic move anticipates the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, aiming to accommodate the projected surge in tourist arrivals, both within the Kingdom and from the broader Gulf region.

The ACAO session concluded with the election of new members to the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, including the General Assembly, Executive Council, and technical committees. Additionally, Khalid Cherkaoui was appointed as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
