In the heart of Dakar, the residence of the Moroccan Embassy played host to a unique photographic exhibition titled “Morocco–Senegal: a Shared History, a Common Destiny”. The event, held on July 14, brought together political, diplomatic, and media figures to celebrate the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
The gathering included prominent personalities such as the Senegalese Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, Bakary Sarr, Presidential Advisor Amadou Tidiane Wone, and Lamine Niang, Director-General of the daily newspaper Le Soleil.
The exhibition featured a compelling collection of vintage photographs, archival documents, and press clippings—primarily sourced from Le Soleil’s archives—tracing the evolution of cooperation between Rabat and Dakar. It highlighted key milestones in a relationship built over decades, rooted in shared history, politics, culture, and faith.
A legacy to preserve and pass on
Morocco’s Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, emphasized that the exhibition transcends mere nostalgia. “This showcase is not just a retrospective; it is a call to action. It reminds us of our duty to safeguard this collective heritage and ensure it is passed down to future generations,” he stated. “We must nurture this exceptional relationship, enrich it continuously, and ensure its continuity—an inheritance bestowed upon us by our Sovereigns, Senegalese Presidents, and all those who have contributed to its foundation.”
Education as a bridge between nations
Lamine Niang underscored the tangible impact of this partnership. “This relationship proves that authentic African solidarity thrives when built on trust and a shared vision, beyond mere interests. Today, thousands of Senegalese students pursue higher education in Moroccan universities, while Moroccan students contribute to Senegal’s academic landscape,” he noted.
Beyond its nostalgic appeal, the exhibition stands as a testament to the resilience of the Morocco-Senegal bond. Both nations are committed to deepening their collaboration, ensuring that this shared legacy remains vibrant and forward-looking.
