Alternative crédible: a fresh political voice emerges in Côte d’Ivoire
A bold new political movement has been unveiled in Grand-Bassam, promising to offer a fresh alternative to address Côte d’Ivoire’s pressing socio-economic and democratic challenges. On July 4, 2026, representatives introduced Alternative crédible (ACR), positioning it as a platform rooted in transparency, inclusivity, and social justice.
The initiative was born on December 1, 2025, when a diverse coalition of civil society leaders, youth activists, and professionals united under a shared vision: to transform the nation’s political landscape. Oxyde Tano, the movement’s National Executive Secretary, emphasized that despite Côte d’Ivoire’s abundant human and natural resources, systemic issues—such as soaring living costs, youth unemployment, social inequality, and inadequate public services—demand urgent and innovative solutions.
ACR’s core principles and goals
The ACR frames itself as a left-leaning movement with a human-centered approach. Its guiding mission is to build a Côte d’Ivoire that is just, prosperous, reconciled, democratic, and law-abiding. With the slogan “Demain se décide aujourd’hui” (Tomorrow is decided today), the movement advocates for governance rooted in accountability, constructive dialogue, and the pursuit of collective well-being.
Among its key priorities, the ACR outlines:
- Boosting youth employment and entrepreneurship
- Enhancing the education system
- Improving access to healthcare
- Modernizing agriculture
- Strengthening security and property rights
- Empowering women and promoting gender equality
- Combating high living costs
- Driving economic development
- Protecting the environment
- Fostering national unity
Tano underscored the ACR’s openness to collaboration with all political and social actors who align with its values of peace, democracy, social justice, and sustainable growth. The movement pledges special attention to young people, women, workers, entrepreneurs, students, and the Ivorian diaspora.
Launch plans and nationwide outreach
In August, the ACR will officially kick off its public campaign in Cocody, where its president, Bamba Abou, will unveil the movement’s detailed political vision and strategic roadmap. Prior to this, a series of sensitization tours, general assemblies, and local coordination setups will roll out across the country, alongside nationwide mobilization and membership drives.
The movement’s leaders frame this moment as a historic opportunity to turn the page on past challenges. “The time has come to write a new chapter in our nation’s story,” Tano declared, reaffirming the ACR’s ambition to help craft a Côte d’Ivoire that is stronger, fairer, and more prosperous.
