Ousmane Sonko and cabinet face Friday assembly session in Senegal

The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, alongside his government, is set to appear before the National Assembly this Friday, May 22, 2026 for the highly anticipated session of parliamentary questions.

El Malick Ndiaye, Speaker of the National Assembly, confirmed the upcoming engagement, highlighting its significance as a critical platform for legislative oversight. This formal dialogue between the Executive and legislators serves as a cornerstone of Senegal’s democratic governance, enabling direct accountability on key national issues.

During the session, lawmakers will have the opportunity to grill Sonko and select ministers on pressing economic, social, and political matters. Discussions are expected to cover urgent topics such as the rising cost of living, employment challenges, ongoing institutional reforms, and public policy implementation. The exchange reflects the Assembly’s constitutional role in monitoring government performance and ensuring transparency.

Since assuming office in April 2024, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has participated in four prior sessions of parliamentary questions. These regular engagements have become an integral part of the government’s interaction with the National Assembly, fostering a culture of open governance and responsiveness.
