Rabat marks six and a half decades of Morocco-Vietnam diplomatic bonds
Rabat recently played host to a momentous event celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in partnership with the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Liberation Members, the day-long program underscored decades of shared values and mutual cooperation.
A tribute to a revolutionary icon
The festivities began with the unveiling of a special exhibition titled “President Hô Chi Minh: Emblem of Peace and International Friendship”. Running until June 26, the showcase traces the life and legacy of Vietnam’s national liberation hero, whose lifelong commitment to peace, self-determination and cross-border collaboration continues to inspire generations. The exhibition is a collaborative effort involving the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Hô Chi Minh Memorial Site, an institution under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Bilateral dialogue focuses on future cooperation
Central to the anniversary celebrations was a high-level seminar exploring avenues to deepen collaboration across diplomacy, economics, academia, culture and human exchanges. Highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership, Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Liberation Members—who also serves as President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association—emphasised the historic resonance of the ties that bind the two nations.
During his address, Mr. El Ktiri drew attention to the symbolic 2022 inauguration of the Vietnam Gate in Kénitra, a counterpart to the Morocco Gate in Bà Vi. These twin monuments, he noted, stand as enduring testaments to the enduring friendship that transcends continents and generations.
Commercial ties flourish as cultural and educational exchanges expand
Ambassador Le Kim Quy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Morocco highlighted the steady growth of bilateral relations, pointing to increased high-level visits and exchanges in recent years as proof of mutual trust and shared ambition. The ambassador also highlighted the remarkable expansion of economic ties, with two-way trade reaching $390 million in 2025—a figure that reflects robust commercial engagement.
The celebration also marked the inauguration of the Hô Chi Minh Library, a new cultural hub stocked with French, English and Arabic titles. The collection, generously donated by the Vietnamese leader’s memorial site, enriches the resources available to the High Commission and strengthens the cultural bridge between the two countries.
