Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko led the official send-off ceremony this morning for Senegal’s delegation departing for Nairobi. The high-level « Africa Forward » summit, running until May 13, 2026, brings together heads of state, major donors, and key private-sector players from across the continent.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is already on-site, set to be joined by a ministerial team and financial experts. Their mission? To champion a bold agenda for Senegal at the international level.
Before boarding, Sonko outlined an uncompromising stance aligned with the nation’s sovereignty agenda: “Our goal in Nairobi is to push for a clear vision: no development without sovereignty, and no sovereignty without self-financing.”
The Paris-based summit marks a fresh dialogue format between Africa and France, tackling pressing issues such as debt restructuring, infrastructure financing, energy transitions, and security challenges.
Senegal is advocating for fairer public-private partnerships (PPPs) that unlock funding while safeguarding the country’s strategic autonomy. The delegation aims to reshape financing models seen as restrictive to African economic growth.
