Senegal politics: APR leader challenges Ousmane Sonko to act on evidence

In a bold public statement, Maimouna Sène, a prominent figure in the national executive secretariat of Alliance Pour la République (APR), has delivered a pointed critique of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, urging him to channel any alleged evidence into legal proceedings rather than political rhetoric.

Accountability must go beyond rhetoric

Addressing the nation’s leader, Maimouna Sène emphasized that accountability is a fundamental institutional duty, not a tool for political maneuvering. She condemned what she described as “judicial populism” and “distractions”, calling for a shift from public statements to concrete actions in governance.

Her remarks came as a direct challenge to Ousmane Sonko, whom she urged to “submit any evidence to the courts if you have it, and allow judges to work without interference.”

Economic and social priorities take center stage

Beyond the legal debate, Maimouna Sène highlighted the urgent need for the government to prioritize the economic and social well-being of Senegalese citizens. She stressed the critical importance of combating inflation, boosting employment, and revitalizing the national economy as immediate priorities.

Calling for leadership through action

The former parliamentarian also called on Ousmane Sonko to demonstrate leadership by prioritizing deeds over words. She insisted that public officials must uphold the highest standards of integrity and exemplarity in the management of state affairs, reinforcing the call for a transparent and responsible governance model.
