This decisive move was announced on national television by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye himself.
The announcement closes a turbulent chapter in the relationship between these two prominent political figures.
The dismissal also extends to all ministers and state secretaries serving in the government.
Ousmane Sonko responded to his removal on social media, stating, “Alhamdoulillah. Tonight, I will sleep peacefully at the Keur Gorgui residence.”

The Presidency confirmed that a new Prime Minister will be appointed, and a new government will be formed under President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s leadership.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s rise to the presidency in 2024 was championed by Ousmane Sonko, who was barred from running. Sonko strategically positioned Faye as the presidential candidate, leading an energetic campaign that culminated in Faye’s decisive first-round victory with over 54% of the vote.
