The Senegal women’s national football team is set to face Tunisia in the second round of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic qualification tournament, with a two-legged tie scheduled for October 2026.
The draw for the African Women’s Olympic Football Qualification Tournament took place on Wednesday, April 29, outlining the full schedule of matches running from June 1, 2026, to December 4, 2027. The tournament will unfold across five knockout rounds, each played over two legs.
First-round matchups kick off the competition
The initial round features only the six lowest-ranked teams according to the FIFA rankings. Here’s how the fixtures shape up:
- Sudan vs Comoros
- South Sudan vs Madagascar
- Mauritius vs Djibouti
Second round sees top teams enter the fray
The second round, commencing in October 2026, will see stronger teams join the competition. Senegal and Tunisia are among the nations entering at this stage. The winner of the Senegal-Tunisia tie will progress to face the victor of the Mali-Benin clash in the subsequent round.
Other high-profile encounters include Morocco, which advanced to the CAN Women final, facing Congo. There’s also the potential for a reunion with Nigeria, the reigning African champions and already qualified for Paris 2024, as early as the third round.
Pathways to LA28 for other African contenders
Algeria will begin their journey in the Central African Republic. Zambia, which competed in Paris 2024, must first overcome Uganda before potentially taking on Ghana in a bid to secure a third consecutive Olympic berth.
