The President of Senegal and current Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) arrived in Bamako today for a high-level meeting with Malian counterpart Assimi Goïta. Elected in 2024, Bassirou Diomaye Faye made his first regional trip as Senegal’s leader to neighboring Mali. Now, two years later, he returns to Bamako—this time as ECOWAS Chair following his appointment on July 19—to advance collective security strategies against regional threats.
