In a historic move reshaping Senegal’s political landscape, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye inaugurated his latest political vehicle, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, on Saturday, July 25, in Dakar. The launch signals a decisive shift following his separation from the PASTEF, once led by his former mentor, Ousmane Sonko.
The new party’s founding assembly, held in a prominent city hotel, introduced its guiding motto: « La Patrie d’abord » (The Nation First). This principle underscores a commitment to prioritizing national interests, reinforcing republican institutions, and upholding the rule of law. The name KIIRAAY, derived from Wolof, translates to “what protects,” symbolizing a movement dedicated to advancing the President’s governance agenda while uniting supporters behind his transformative vision for Senegal.
During the assembly, delegates unanimously elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the party’s leader. This appointment formalizes his new political identity, distinct from his previous role within Pastef, which he relinquished upon assuming office.
A resolution presented by Aminata Touré, former coordinator of the Diomaye Président coalition, outlined that KIIRAAY emerged from the merger of 437 political parties, movements, and civic associations. United by a shared mission, these groups aim to bolster ongoing reforms initiated by the President and accelerate the nation’s development aspirations.
The formation of KIIRAAY is drawing close scrutiny from international partners, investors, and development stakeholders. As Senegal advances its Vision Sénégal 2050 agenda, institutional stability and transparent governance remain pivotal to sustaining market confidence, attracting foreign investment, and deepening international collaborations.
