Following Chad’s military participation in Cameroon’s National Unity Day celebrations, Yaoundé and N’Djamena are moving to deepen their long-standing defense cooperation. This strategic partnership, rooted in shared security interests and enduring military camaraderie, was reaffirmed during high-level talks in the Cameroonian capital.

On May 21, 2026, the 54th edition of Cameroon’s National Unity Day concluded with a renewed commitment to bilateral defense and diplomatic collaboration. The meeting between Cameroon’s Deputy Minister to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph, and Chad’s Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamous, underscored the importance of regional security cooperation.

The defense ministry’s conference room served as the venue for this pivotal discussion. Both nations reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen defense ties, emphasizing their shared commitment to addressing the region’s evolving security challenges. The cordial atmosphere reflected mutual respect and a shared vision for enhanced military cooperation.

Led by General Issakha Malloua Djamous, the Chadian delegation was warmly received in Yaoundé. Discussions centered on deepening collaboration between Cameroon’s and Chad’s defense forces, with particular attention to cross-border security threats. The talks also highlighted the alignment between Yaoundé and N’Djamena on key regional security priorities.

Chad’s participation in the National Unity Day parade—represented by the elite National and Nomadic Guard—sent a powerful message of solidarity. The display of military unity on Yaoundé’s Boulevard du 20 Mai symbolized the strong fraternal bonds between the armed forces of both nations.

Beyond military matters, the meeting reflects a broader commitment to fostering people-to-people ties. Cameroon’s engagement with Chad reinforces its dedication to strengthening strategic partnerships across the subregion, advancing peace, security, and African integration.
