Algeria and Niger strengthen energy and security ties in Niamey meeting

The Prime Minister of Algeria, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, was received in Niamey by Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, to discuss deepening bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Mr. Ghrieb conveyed warm greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to strengthening fraternal ties and fostering solidarity and cooperation between the two nations.

Fast-tracked power plant project set to boost regional energy

Discussions centered on reviewing the progress of joint initiatives and evaluating outcomes from President Tiani’s official visit to Algeria in February, as well as the outcomes of his talks with President Tebboune. Both sides also examined projects agreed upon during the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint High Commission for Cooperation, held in Niamey last March.

President Tiani expressed deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s strong support in advancing bilateral cooperation, highlighting the rapid completion of a power plant project as a testament to the strong bonds between the two countries. He emphasized the shared determination of both leaders to build a robust and diversified partnership that aligns with the common interests of their peoples, while promoting greater solidarity, integration, and sustainable development.

South-South cooperation model hailed as an example

President Tiani praised the impressive progress of bilateral projects, describing the exceptional momentum in Algeria-Niger relations as a shining model of South-South cooperation. He reiterated the sincere intent—shared with President Tebboune—to elevate bilateral ties to new heights.

Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the swift advancement of cooperation efforts, noting that the relationship has entered a new phase marked by stronger political commitment and tangible progress on the ground. This was made possible through the clear guidance of both leaders and their dedication to closely monitoring the implementation of mutually agreed roadmaps.

Regional stability and economic integration take center stage

Mr. Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to continuing cooperation in key sectors such as energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital transformation, and transportation. He also stressed the importance of advancing structural projects that contribute to economic development and regional integration.

The talks also addressed trade and economic cooperation programs, with both parties underscoring the need to expedite implementation to support economic growth and strengthen regional unity. On regional challenges, they emphasized the importance of sustained bilateral consultation and coordination to promote peace, security, and stability across the region.
