Bakú hosts high-level talks to deepen Azerbaijani-Moroccan legislative cooperation
Bakú witnessed a significant parliamentary exchange as Sahibə Gafarova, Chairperson of Azerbaijan’s Milli Mejlis, met with Mohamed Ghayate, Vice-President of Morocco’s Chamber of Representatives. The encounter took place during Mr. Ghayate’s official visit for the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.
Both leaders praised the current state of bilateral relations, noting steady progress in political and diplomatic collaboration. Mutual respect and shared commitments at international forums were highlighted as key pillars of a robust partnership. The discussion emphasized the strong alignment between Azerbaijan and Morocco on global issues, with a particular focus on solidarity and coordinated action within multilateral organizations.
Azerbaijan’s parliamentary chief underscored the vital role of inter-parliamentary dialogue in reinforcing state-to-state relations. She reflected on her past official visit to Morocco and interactions with Moroccan counterparts at international gatherings, citing these exchanges as instrumental in fostering mutual understanding. Both sides acknowledged the active role of friendship groups in their respective legislatures, serving as bridges to enhance cooperation. The recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the parliaments was identified as a strategic move to unlock new opportunities for collaboration.
The talks also covered joint participation in international parliamentary networks, including the Non-Aligned Movement’s parliamentary network. Morocco’s strong representation and active engagement in these forums were recognized as vital to advancing shared priorities on the global stage.
