Benin: Claudy Siar appointed presidential advisor for culture and media
The celebrated radio host and panafricanist Claudy Siar has been named Presidential Advisor for Culture, Media, and International Visibility of Benin. The appointment was announced on June 3, 2026, marking a new chapter in his media career.
Renowned panafricanist and media personality Claudy Siar has been appointed Presidential Advisor for Culture, Media, and International Visibility of Benin. The announcement was made on June 3, 2026, by President Romuald Wadagni.
This appointment comes as a significant recognition of Siar’s lifelong dedication to African cultural promotion and media excellence. Following his departure from Radio France Internationale (RFI) in March 2026, the panafricanist has transitioned into a new role that aligns with his vision for Africa’s global influence.
Siar’s departure from RFI marked the end of an era, as he hosted the iconic show Couleurs Tropicales for over three decades, beginning in 1995. The show’s cancellation followed program grid restructuring and contract non-renewal. Siar publicly attributed his exit to his outspoken panafricanist views, criticism of Western policies, and his unwavering commitment to African unity and progress.
RFI, on the other hand, cited a strategic shift toward a new musical programming direction as the reason behind the decision. After more than 31 years at the international broadcaster, Siar has now embarked on a fresh venture with NewWorld TV, where he is set to launch two new channels: NewWorld Mix and NewWorld Muzik.
