During a plenary session at the Palais des Gouverneurs, the deputies of the 10th legislature reviewed and adopted a bill amending the 2009-22 law on the Mediator of the Republic.

This legislative reform eliminates the separate appointment of the Mediator of the Republic, thereby rationalizing the functioning of state institutions.
Henceforth, the responsibilities of this conciliation body will be automatically assumed by the first vice-president of the Economic and Social Council (CES). Given the current structure of the CES, this heavy duty falls directly to Razacki Amouda Issifou.
He will thus combine his prerogatives as first vice-president of the advisory institution with his new missions as Mediator of the Republic.
The new Mediator of the Republic approaches this role with a profile of a seasoned jurist and particularly dense experience at the top of the state. Razacki Amouda Issifou has indeed marked Beninese public life by successively holding the positions of vice-president and then president of the Constitutional Court.
His career also led him to the National Assembly, where he chaired the prestigious Law Commission. Former secretary general of the very first National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) in 1996, he also served as mayor between 2010 and 2015, after holding several strategic management positions within the Ministry of Justice.
His deep knowledge of administrative and constitutional mechanisms is a major asset for leading this new formula of the Mediator of the Republic.
