Top civil servants honored for mining sector strategies in DRC

Buanya Prize Award Ceremony

Top administrators recognized for transforming Congo’s mining sector

The Ministry of Mines held an official ceremony this Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hotel in Kinshasa to award the prestigious Buanya Excellence Prize. This competition, launched by Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba, challenged graduates of the National Administration School (ENA) to develop innovative solutions for the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining challenges.

The event brought together the Secretary-General of Mines, senior officials from oversight bodies, jury members, participating civil servants, and distinguished guests. Highlights included the announcement of winners and prize distribution to the top-performing teams.

Over several weeks, 48 top administrators worked in six teams to research and analyze critical mining issues, including governance, transparency in resource management, fraud prevention, artisanal mining regulation, geological exploration, equitable revenue distribution, and new mining project development.

Minister Kabamba emphasized that the DRC’s central role in global energy transition demands transformative use of mineral resources to create jobs, modern infrastructure, and quality social services. He challenged the winners to become ambassadors of excellence, integrity, and change, stressing that future mining governance must prioritize meritocracy, innovation, transparency, and accountability.

This initiative aligns with President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo‘s vision, implemented under Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka‘s coordination, which emphasizes human capital development and good governance as pillars of public administration.

The ceremony concluded with a group photo, marking the end of an enriching experience and paving the way for greater youth engagement in transforming Congo’s mining sector.
