Romuald Wadagni has been formally sworn in as the new head of state for the Republic of Bénin, with his official inauguration taking place this Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The newly appointed president formally assumed his duties as chief of state, personally escorting his predecessor, Patrice Talon, to his waiting vehicle.
The solemn ceremony unfolded at the prestigious Palais de la République, also known as La Marina. Prior to the public proceedings, outgoing president Patrice Talon and his successor, Romuald Wadagni, engaged in a private, one-on-one discussion.
Romuald Wadagni’s oath of office was administered by the Constitutional Court, witnessed by numerous prominent figures from Bénin’s political landscape, alongside representatives from approximately fifteen international delegations, highlighting the event’s significance in pan-African current affairs.
In his solemn pledge, President Romuald Wadagni vowed to “uphold and defend the Constitution” of Bénin, further acknowledging his readiness to “face the full force of the law in the event of any breach of his oath.”
