Burkina Faso and Mali draw 2-2 in women’s CAN 2026 friendly

The Stallions of Burkina Faso have concluded another series of friendly matches as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. After a goalless draw in the first encounter, both sides again failed to separate, finishing 2-2 on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.

Mali struck first, with Fatoumata Diarra finding the net in the 10th minute to give the Aiglonnes an early lead. The home side remained calm and took control of possession, forcing Mali to chase. A powerful shot struck the crossbar, but Deborah Guira was on hand to slot home the rebound, equalising for Burkina Faso.

Continuing to impose their game, the Burkinabe side crafted another fine move. Judicaëlle Ouoba unleashed a strike into the top corner, leaving the Malian goalkeeper with no chance. That goal put the Stallions ahead 2-1, a scoreline that held until halftime.

In the second half, Burkina Faso enjoyed greater ball possession while Mali attacked but struggled to break through the organised Burkinabe defence. Eventually, a penalty was awarded to Mali, and Aissata Traoré converted to restore parity at 2-2. Both teams pushed for a winner, but the final whistle confirmed the draw.

The first friendly between the two sides had also ended 0-0. These matches are part of the buildup to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, set to take place in Morocco. Burkina Faso have been drawn in a group with Ivory Coast, Tanzania and South Africa, while Mali will face Ghana, Cape Verde and Cameroon. The tournament is scheduled from July 25 to August 16, 2026. For coach Pascal Sawadogo and his squad, this friendly provides another valuable opportunity to fine-tune preparations ahead of the competition.
