Ouagadougou recently hosted the 29th edition of the Galian Awards, an event that honors outstanding journalism across Burkina Faso. On June 19, 2026, Sié Frédéric Kambou, a journalist with Burkina 24, was recognized with the Special Prize from the Ministry of Health in the online press category.
The award celebrates his investigative report titled “Healthcare in Burkina Faso: Breaking the Barrier of Privilege,” published on December 26, 2025. Through on-the-ground reporting, Kambou highlighted key healthcare reforms, including reduced medical exam costs and the elimination of dialysis session deposits in public health facilities.

Overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving his trophy, Kambou dedicated the award to his entire team at Burkina 24, emphasizing the collective effort behind every story.
“I am deeply moved by this recognition,” he shared. “This prize belongs to every member of Burkina 24 and our editors who inspire us daily. It wasn’t an easy journey, but with determination, I made it. This is my first award, and I couldn’t be happier. I urge all journalists to strive for excellence and seize every opportunity to showcase their work.”

Beyond his personal achievement, the award underscores the high standards upheld by Burkina 24, a media outlet committed to delivering fact-based, citizen-focused journalism. The ceremony also honored Aïcha Diombélé/Kabré of RTB Radio in national languages with the Super Galian 2026 prize.
For Burkina 24, Kambou’s recognition marks another milestone in a legacy of excellence. With 17 Galian Awards in 15 years—plus a dozen other accolades—the media outlet continues to set benchmarks in Burkina Faso’s competitive media landscape.
