As Cameroun finalizes arrangements for a third major international gathering in 2026, the country is preparing to host the 51st General Assembly of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly (APF) in Yaoundé from July 7 to 12.

In the lead-up to the event, Cameroon’s ambassador to France, André-Magnus Ekoumou, met with National Assembly President Théodore Datouo to discuss the country’s readiness for the high-profile assembly. Both leaders underscored their confidence in Cameroun’s ability to meet the challenge, aligning with the directives of President Paul Biya.

The Cameroonian embassy in France has implemented streamlined visa procedures, including the issuance of courtesy visas, to ensure smooth entry for all delegations attending the assembly.

During the meeting, President Datouo emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary democracy and praised the ambassador’s efforts in supporting Cameroonians in France, particularly in facilitating their participation in Promote 2026, the upcoming business summit at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé.

The discussions also explored plans for establishing a parliamentary museum at the National Assembly, with a focus on digital innovation and leveraging French expertise in museum development and best practices.

A key highlight of the upcoming session will be the election of a new Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda emerging as leading African contenders.
