Chad joins un green climate fund’s urban resilience program in Baku

Chad’s presence at the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, has yielded a significant milestone. The Central African nation is now the 11th eligible country for the Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations (BCRUP) program under the Green Climate Fund, expanding the initiative’s reach to eleven participating countries.

This international acknowledgment highlights Chad’s commitment to addressing pressing climate challenges, including devastating floods, mass displacement of urban residents, and the escalating impact of climate change on its cities.

During the forum, the Chadian delegation, led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata, held a productive meeting with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The discussions centered on strategies for urban resilience and potential areas of collaboration. Following the talks, the first approved project secured funding between 900,000 and 1 million dollars. This initial success paves the way for additional financial support from UN-Habitat in the coming months.
