Chad has heightened its crackdown on human trafficking, particularly targeting the exploitation of women and children. Authorities are reinforcing legal measures and ensuring strict enforcement of existing anti-trafficking laws through a newly issued circular to security and judicial officials.

Human trafficking remains a severe violation of human rights, often involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, Chad has strengthened its legal framework with key legislation, including Ordinance Nº006/PR/2018 and Law Nº12/PR/2018, to combat this scourge.

New directives to accelerate prosecutions

Judicial and security personnel have been instructed to prioritize rapid investigations, meticulous documentation, and immediate referral of cases to competent courts. All trafficking cases must now be systematically reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Trafficking Commission for thorough monitoring and follow-up.

Provincial oversight and data-driven policy

Provincial delegates have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these directives. The initiative aims to establish a national database to support the development of a robust, evidence-based policy against human trafficking in Chad.
