Chad strengthens digital partnerships during Washington mission

The Government of Chad is advancing its digital transformation agenda through a high-level mission to Washington, D.C., where officials engaged with major technology firms and U.S. agencies from May 23 to 31, 2026. Led by Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalization Haliki Choua Mahamat, the delegation sought to forge strategic alliances that will accelerate the country’s digital infrastructure development.

This diplomatic and economic outreach reflects N’Djamena’s commitment to modernizing public services, enhancing internet connectivity and fostering innovation across key sectors. The mission included meetings with officials from the U.S. Department of State and Department of Commerce, as well as discussions with industry leaders such as InterSystems, Starlink, Cybastion, Vertiv and 19Labs.

Priorities in digital infrastructure and connectivity

Among the most significant discussions were those with Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet provider. Chadian authorities raised concerns about service quality and pricing disparities compared to other African nations. Improving internet access remains a national priority, as traditional telecom infrastructure struggles to meet the demands of public administrations, businesses and citizens.

The government is pursuing multiple initiatives to expand digital inclusion, including modernizing national telecom networks and deploying advanced connectivity solutions. These efforts aim to support economic diversification and position Chad as a competitive player in Africa’s digital economy.

Digital health: transforming healthcare delivery

Beyond telecommunications, the mission also focused on digital health solutions. Discussions centered on projects to modernize healthcare facilities, including the five university teaching hospitals, 23 regional hospitals and over 1,000 health centers nationwide. The goal is to digitize medical records, improve patient monitoring and enhance the efficiency of health services through innovative technologies.

By integrating digital tools into healthcare, Chad aims to address longstanding challenges in service delivery and public health management, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

Building local digital expertise

Capacity building emerged as a key theme during the Washington meetings. Chadian officials emphasized the need to develop local skills in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital professions. Strengthening national expertise is seen as essential to reducing reliance on foreign consultants and fostering a sustainable technology ecosystem.

Training programs and technology transfer initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in equipping the workforce with the competencies required for a digital economy. These efforts align with the government’s broader strategy to cultivate an innovation-driven environment that supports long-term growth.

From dialogue to action: securing tangible results

For Chad, this mission represents a critical step toward translating international partnerships into concrete outcomes. The government is determined to convert these engagements into funded projects that will enhance digital infrastructure, improve public services and boost economic competitiveness. As the country faces persistent challenges in connectivity and digital inclusion, the outcomes of these discussions could shape the future of Chad’s digital landscape for years to come.
