Ivorian leadership reaffirms unwavering support for Morocco’s Sahara sovereignty
Diplomatic ties strengthen as Abidjan aligns with Rabat’s autonomy vision
During an official working visit to Rabat, Côte d’Ivoire’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nialé Kaba, confirmed her country’s steadfast backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including its Sahara region. The declaration came following high-level talks with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, as part of a joint communiqué highlighting the depth of bilateral relations.
Nialé Kaba emphasized that Côte d’Ivoire’s support for Morocco’s position remains consistent, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations. This alignment was further solidified by the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which Côte d’Ivoire praised as the most credible framework for resolving the regional dispute. The Ivorian minister also highlighted the significance of Morocco’s 2020 decision to open a consulate in Laâyoune, underscoring the robustness of their bilateral cooperation.
In response, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita expressed deep gratitude for Côte d’Ivoire’s continued support, noting that the partnership between the two countries is built on mutual trust and strengthened South-South cooperation.
International recognition grows for Morocco’s autonomy initiative
The joint meetings in Rabat not only reinforced bilateral ties but also highlighted the global momentum behind Morocco’s autonomy proposal for the Sahara.
