Côte d’Ivoire honore a geospatial trailblazer at prestigious awards ceremony
Abidjan, 20 June — Dr Edouard Fonh-Gbéi, Director-General of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Committee for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information (CNTIG), was honored this week at the Evening of African Economic Builders. The award, presented in Abidjan on 18 June, celebrates his leadership in advancing geospatial technologies for national development.
“This recognition belongs to every member of the CNTIG team,” Dr Fonh-Gbéi said. “It reflects our shared vision, relentless dedication, and the results we achieve together—day in and day out.” His remarks underscored the collective effort behind Côte d’Ivoire’s digital transformation in land management and economic planning.
Appointed CNTIG director in 2012 following an international recruitment process, Dr Fonh-Gbéi brings over two decades of global experience in geodetic engineering. With a PhD in civil engineering specializing in satellite geodesy, he has positioned the CNTIG as a cornerstone of Côte d’Ivoire’s technological progress, driving innovation in geographic information systems (GIS) and satellite-based mapping.
The Evening of African Economic Builders, established in 2006, spotlights excellence and merit in entrepreneurship and business across the continent. By recognizing figures like Dr Fonh-Gbéi, the forum highlights how visionary leadership in technology can accelerate Africa’s economic growth and sustainable development.
“I accept this honor with deep gratitude,” he stated, “and see it as a call to raise our ambitions further. The greatest achievements lie ahead.”
