Hermann Immongault engages gabonese diaspora in Antananarivo

Following his official visit to Antananarivo, where he represented the President of Gabon at Madagascar’s 66th independence anniversary celebrations, Vice-President Hermann Immongault held a significant meeting with Gabonese citizens residing on the ‘Great Island’. This direct engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the daily concerns of the Gabonese community and to reaffirm Libreville’s steadfast commitment to fostering continuous dialogue with its diaspora.

During the productive discussions, representatives of the Gabonese diaspora highlighted several challenges faced by their compatriots living in Madagascar. A primary concern raised was the absence of a permanent consular presence, which complicates numerous administrative procedures. Additionally, issues affecting Gabonese students were brought to light, including the monitoring of scholarships, the recognition of university qualifications, and the need to enhance academic exchange programs. Community members also advocated for stronger economic ties between Gabon and Madagascar, aiming to stimulate entrepreneurial initiatives and facilitate reciprocal investments.

A cooperation poised for growth

In response to these critical points, Hermann Immongault assured the attendees that all expressed grievances would receive thorough consideration from the relevant authorities. He emphasized the importance of deepening interactions between Libreville and Antananarivo, particularly regarding visa processes, scholarships managed by the National Scholarship Agency of Gabon (ANBG), and comprehensive support for students. The Vice-President underscored Gabon’s strong desire to cultivate a closer relationship with Madagascar, aligning with the shared vision of both nations’ heads of state.

Addressing the business community, Hermann Immongault encouraged Malagasy entrepreneurs to explore the diverse opportunities available in Gabon, particularly within the agri-food and energy sectors. He affirmed that institutional and economic exchanges between the two countries are expected to intensify significantly in the coming months. This meeting with the diaspora thus forms part of a broader strategy to maintain close ties with Gabonese citizens abroad, demonstrating the authorities’ resolve to leverage cooperation between Libreville and Antananarivo as a powerful engine for development, benefiting both populations and economic stakeholders.
