The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in the security landscape, asserting full control over regions previously contested by armed factions in the north and center-south of the country. This announcement follows intense operations against the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in the northern territories and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated faction operating in central and southern Mali.
Strategic reinforcements and renewed clashes
In a recent development, combat resumed Sunday in Anifif, a strategic location situated 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The resumption of hostilities coincided with the arrival of additional fighters and military supplies dispatched to the MNLA, according to military sources. Despite these reinforcements, Malian troops demonstrated unwavering resolve, engaging in sustained combat throughout the day with remarkable discipline and tactical precision.
Unshaken resolve against insurgent threats
In an official statement, the FAMA reaffirmed their absolute confidence in their operational capabilities, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian population. The communiqué underscored the army’s determination to dismantle enemy forces and restore stability across all affected zones.
The MNLA’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had previously claimed control of Anifif following a surge in clashes. However, military officials dismissed such assertions, confirming that operations remained firmly under government control. Additionally, reports suggesting the death of MNLA leader Mbarek Ag Akli were categorically refuted, with the faction insisting he continues to oversee military operations in northern Mali.
