Morocco joins international stabilization force in Gaza with humanitarian commitment
Morocco has signed a landmark agreement to deploy troops and resources to Gaza as part of an international stabilization mission. This move underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering peace and security in the region through concrete humanitarian and security actions.
The Kingdom of Morocco has formalized its participation in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza by signing a key agreement in Rabat. The ceremony, held at the headquarters of the National Defense Administration, brought together top Moroccan military and diplomatic leaders alongside representatives of the Gaza Peace Council and ISF command.
The Moroccan delegation, led by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, received Nickolay Mladenov, the High Representative of the Gaza Peace Council. The meeting was also attended by high-ranking officers of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), including the Inspector General and Commander of the Southern Zone, as well as the Gendarmerie Royale leadership.
This agreement marks the culmination of Morocco’s commitment as a founding member of the Gaza Peace Council, following the Kingdom’s pledge at the council’s inaugural meeting in Washington, under the patronage of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The participation of Morocco in the ISF reflects the Kingdom’s long-standing dedication to international peacekeeping, particularly through its extensive experience in UN-led missions.
Morocco’s strategic role in regional stability
During the discussions, Moroccan officials highlighted the Kingdom’s deep-rooted commitment to peace, cooperation, and international solidarity. They emphasized that Morocco’s involvement in the ISF will play a pivotal role in restoring stability to the Middle East, aligning with the Kingdom’s broader diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives.
The agreement outlines Morocco’s contributions, including the deployment of senior officers from the FAR to the ISF joint command, personnel from the Gendarmerie Royale and the National Security Directorate (DGSN), and the establishment of a military field hospital. These efforts are designed to support both humanitarian aid and security stabilization in Gaza.
Representatives of the Gaza Peace Council and ISF leadership praised Morocco’s decision, acknowledging the Kingdom’s proven expertise in peacekeeping operations and its contributions to regional security and social progress.
Legal framework and operational commitments
The signed accord establishes the legal and operational framework for Morocco’s participation in the ISF. It formalizes the Kingdom’s pledge to contribute through tangible humanitarian and security actions, aiming to foster a lasting climate of peace and stability in Gaza and the broader region. The agreement underscores the shared vision of all parties involved in advancing peace and security in the Middle East.
