Morocco is actively engaged in the second Political Conference addressing the critical nexus between peace, security, and development, held from July 11 to 12 in Mombasa, Kenya.
This significant gathering builds upon the foundational work of the first Political Conference on the peace, security, and development nexus, which convened in Tanger from October 25 to 27, 2022. That inaugural event culminated in the adoption of the landmark Tanger Declaration. This declaration established an integrated African vision for the nexus, emphasizing coordinated public policies, strengthened partnerships, and the implementation of concrete projects designed to foster lasting peace, robust security, and sustainable development across the continent.
The Tanger Process has emerged as the foremost continental platform for dialogue on the inherent interdependence of peace, security, and development within Africa. It brings together a diverse array of key continental and international partners committed to this vital domain, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank.
The primary objective of this second conference is to meticulously assess the progress made in implementing the Tanger Declaration. Furthermore, it aims to pinpoint operational strategies that can further reinforce the intricate connection between peace, security, and development throughout Africa, contributing to pan-African current affairs and stability.
Discussions are structured around five distinct panels, covering crucial topics such as the practical implementation of the Tanger Declaration through thematic projects, the transformative role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations, the strategic balance between security expenditures and development initiatives, mobilizing essential financing for Nexus projects, and extracting valuable lessons from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions. These discussions are key to understanding Africa politics English-speaking nations and beyond.
During these proceedings, the Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, will articulate Morocco’s integrated vision for peace, security, and development. This vision is firmly rooted in fostering robust partnerships and championing African-led solutions that genuinely address the continent’s unique priorities and realities, providing valuable insights into African society news and progress.
