A significant milestone for Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, was reached this Monday, June 15, 2026, with the opening ceremony of the validation workshop for the Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT) strategic documents. The event, held at the Radisson Blu in N’Djamena, gathered an impressive array of participants, including directors and technical leads, municipal administration executives, and expert consultants from the Center for Innovation and Development (CID).
The sole address delivered during the inauguration came from Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, the Mayor of N’Djamena. He began by recalling the inaugural session of the AMGT’s Board of Directors, which took place just a few months prior. This foundational meeting, he emphasized, was crucial for grasping the full scope of challenges, missions, and ambitions entrusted to this nascent institution, while also fostering mutual understanding among board members.
The Mayor articulated the core purpose of the AMGT: to bolster the Commune’s capabilities in conceiving, planning, funding, and executing transformative projects. These initiatives are designed to address the populace’s needs and fulfill the capital’s development aspirations, ultimately establishing effective governance and high-performing management tools dedicated to N’Djamena’s progress. Confronted by the multifaceted issues stemming from rapid urbanization, demographic expansion, urban infrastructure deficits, sanitation challenges, and the imperative of climate resilience, Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye underscored the AMGT’s vital role in delivering the essential infrastructure and facilities required for harmonious development.
Urging attendees to engage actively in discussions, share their valuable experiences, and propose any observations or recommendations that could refine the documents under review, the Mayor highlighted that the caliber of their contributions would fortify the Agency’s institutional bedrock and ensure its comprehensive effectiveness in the years ahead. He further reiterated that the success of this ambitious undertaking hinges primarily on the quality of the AMGT’s organizational structure, the robustness of its operational mechanisms, and the unwavering commitment to transparent governance in its management procedures.
Among the critical documents presented for participant scrutiny were the administrative, financial, and accounting management manual, designed to provide a robust framework for resource management and performance measurement; the monitoring and evaluation manual, aimed at enhancing operational performance and cultivating a culture of accountability; and the environmental, social, and gender management framework, which guarantees the integration of sustainable development principles, social inclusion, equity, and environmental protection across all the Agency’s interventions. This comprehensive approach is set to drive N’Djamena’s urban development forward in a responsible and effective manner, reflecting key pan-African current affairs related to sustainable city growth.
