new Senegal cabinet reveals sonko allies despite pastef’s absence

Urgent – Senegal : Voici la liste complète du nouveau Gouvernement

The PASTEF-Les Patriotes party has withdrawn from the new government formed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, citing disagreements over executive structure. Yet multiple ministers with close ties to Ousmane Sonko have been appointed, sparking questions about the cabinet’s political alignment.

In a June 1, 2026 statement, the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party, led by Ousmane Sonko, announced it would not participate in the new government formed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The party cited disagreements with the president over the executive’s structure and confirmed that none of its members would officially be part of the cabinet.

Despite this stance, the government led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al-Aminou Lo includes several figures whose profiles are frequently linked in Senegal’s political discourse to either the PASTEF movement or circles close to its leader.

Ministers with ties to PASTEF in the new cabinet

Among the appointees, several are widely recognized as close to the political project championed by Ousmane Sonko and Bassirou Diomaye Faye during the 2024 presidential election. Notable names include Yankhoba Diémé, appointed as Minister of Armed Forces; Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, who now oversees Hydraulics and Sanitation; Ibrahim Sy, taking charge of Health and Public Hygiene; Marie Angélique Mame Selbe Diouf, heading the Ministry of Family and Social Solidarity; and Déthié Fall, appointed to lead Infrastructure.

These profiles are typically viewed as either part of the presidential movement or as figures who supported the alliance that propelled Bassirou Diomaye Faye to victory. Other government members, such as Cheikh Diba, Cheikh Niang, and Boubacar Camara, are seen as technocrats or independent political figures whose backgrounds are not directly tied to PASTEF.
